This course aims to provide the students the underlying principles of biomedical imaging X-ray CT, SPECT, PET, optical imaging, and MRI; emphasize emerging nanotechnologies and biomedical applications including nanomaterials, nanoengineering, nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems, nano-based imaging and theranostic systems, nanotoxicology, and translating nanomedicines into clinical investigation; and explore the process of drug development, from target identification to final drug registration, involving target selection, lead discovery using computer-based methods, combinatorial chemistry/high-throughput screening, safety evaluation, bioavailability, clinical trials, and the essentials of patent law.
